1. What is a Gambling Affiliate?
It's quite a basic concept, but to understand it we need to look at it from an operator’s point of view. For example an operator such as Bet 365 or Party Gaming decides they would like to generate more registrations/players into one of their casinos, poker rooms or otherwise. Now, to achieve this they can obviously use the standard advertising techniques such as TV, Radio, Sponsors, and Magazines etc. The problem with this is they are usually quite costly and whilst they build the brand very effectively they are almost completely untraceable on a per registration basis. This is where affiliates have the edge and why so many operators have begun setting up affiliate programs. Affiliate advertisers display banners and/or text links on their own websites that link potential customers through to the operators. Each of the links are then dynamically tracked and a commission is paid out to the referrer or affiliate based on the revenue generated from each player. This guarantees that the operator gets value for money by making sure they are not paying out without generating extra revenue and also provides individuals, affiliates & owners of websites like yourselves, the opportunity to take advantage of an ever growing and lucrative industry.
2. How do I get started as an Affiliate?
Well firstly you'll need a website, preferable one targeted towards people who may be inclined to gamble but not necessarily as long as you are getting traffic then there is an opportunity to start making money using one of the gambling affiliate programs. It could be a poker forum, a hints & tips site or anything related to it. Next you select a brand/operator that's running an affiliate campaign, and finally you sign up to use the banners they provide and drive your traffic through to those sites. These banners are tracked and depending on the affiliate system being used you should be able to see the number of clicks plus the revenue being generated from them.
3. Which Affiliate Program is the best and how do I choose?
On the internet today there is a huge selection of affiliate programs for you to chose from, each with their own revenue structures and software systems. First you need consider your target market, is it poker, casino, bingo, lottery, mahjong or all types of players? This will dictate the type of brands you will be looking at, the next part is a little trickier. You need to look at the strength of the brand that you will be marketing, a less well known brand has the potential to be more difficult to market as the vistors to your site may be less inclinded to click on it. However on the other hand a bigger brand will have more currently existing members so your valuable webspace could be wasted. The only other factor you should look at is the type of affiliate system being used, some are better than others at tracking your campaigns which helps you determine which advertisements are working best!
4. What does CPA stand for?
The acronym CPA stands for "Cost per Aquisition". It is a term used to describe the amount an operator will pay out to an an affiliate per account sign up. Usually there will be a threshold, meaning the new player will have to deposit up to an agreed amount before the affiliate will receive the payment.
5. What does Rev-Share mean?
Rev-Share, or Revenue Share literally means a share of the revenue made from an active player. In the case of Casino players the revenue will be worked out based on how much is deposited and lost vs won. In the case of poker it will be on the amount that has been "raked" from the hands they have played. If an operator is offering a 50% rev-share on all new aquisitions they are literally offering you half of the revenue generated by the player you referred!
6. What does no Negative Carry Over mean?
When a player you have referred has a big win they contribute negatively to your overall revenue from all your players, reducing or in the case of a big win wipe out your commission. If the operator is not operating a "No Negative Carry Over" then this negative amount will carry through to your next month untill your account is reading positive again. If the operator is offering a "No Negative Carry Over" scheme then once you reach the next month your account is reset and you are back into the positive, this is obviously very beneficial to affiliates and your overall success.
